MuseVu PRO

MuseVu is free for everyday streaming. Pro unlocks the power features. Here is exactly what each one does, and how to get the most out of it.

Free stays free. Everyday streaming from your own Jellyfin server is free: signing in, browsing your whole library, search (including voice search), streaming in good quality, Continue Watching with automatic next episode, 8 interface languages, cinematic billboard previews, and automatic reconnect after a brief Wi-Fi drop. Pro adds genuine, tangible extras.

Pro features

Offline downloads and offline viewing

Download movies and individual episodes to your device and watch them with no internet at all. A dedicated offline library, and an offline entry on the profile screen, work fully without a server connection.

  • Choose your download size: when you tap Download, pick Original quality (the full file) or a Smaller file that saves a lot of storage. The app shows the estimated size (for example "~1.8 GB" instead of 10 GB).
  • Subtitles included: the available subtitle tracks are downloaded alongside the video, so offline viewing has selectable subtitles in any language your server offers.

Casting to your TV

Cast a title from your phone to a compatible TV and control playback (play, pause, seek, audio and subtitle track) from the phone.

Smart adaptive quality

MuseVu automatically raises or lowers streaming quality based on buffering and dropped frames, so it keeps playing smoothly instead of stalling. Works best with server hardware transcoding (see the setup section).

Robust streaming with an extra-large buffer

A much larger, device-aware forward buffer rides out longer internet dips without stuttering. Very high-bitrate video uses the buffer faster, so this is a bigger cushion, not a fixed guarantee.

Skip intro and credits

A one-tap button to jump past intros and end credits. Requires intro or credit markers on your server (see the setup section).

Kids mode and parental controls

A PIN-locked kids mode with an age filter, so children only see age-appropriate titles: on the home screen, in search, and offline.

Multiple servers and profiles

Add and switch between several Jellyfin servers and user profiles.

Playback speed

Watch at 0.5x to 2x.

Sleep timer

Automatically stop after a set time. If it stops playback, an "Are you still watching?" prompt appears with a "Keep watching" button.

Picture-in-picture

Pop the video into a small floating window and keep watching while you use other apps.

Subtitle styling

Adjust subtitle size, colour, and background to your taste.

Remembers your language per series

MuseVu remembers your chosen audio and subtitle language per series and applies it automatically to the next episode.

Get the most out of the special features (one-time server setup)

Almost everything above works out of the box against a standard Jellyfin server, with no setup needed. A few features get better with a small, one-time configuration on your server.

A. Skip intro and credits: install the Intro Skipper plugin

The skip button only appears when your media has intro or credit markers, which Jellyfin does not create by default.

  1. In Jellyfin: Dashboard, then Plugins, then Repositories, and add the Intro Skipper plugin repository.
  2. Install the Intro Skipper plugin and restart Jellyfin.
  3. Run the "Detect Introductions" scheduled task, or let it run over your library.

When markers exist, MuseVu shows the skip button automatically. Without them there is no button (no error, it just stays hidden). Needs Jellyfin 10.10 or newer for the native media segments the app reads.

B. Subtitles in any language: run Bazarr

MuseVu shows and downloads whatever subtitle tracks your server exposes. For automatic subtitles:

  1. Run Bazarr alongside Jellyfin (it auto-fetches subtitles for your library).
  2. Point Bazarr at your movie and series folders and choose your providers and languages.

Those subtitle files then appear in MuseVu online, and are included in downloads for offline viewing.

C. Smooth playback and efficient downloads: enable hardware transcoding

Adaptive quality, casting, and the "smaller file" download all rely on the server transcoding video.

  • In Jellyfin: Dashboard, then Playback, then Transcoding, and enable hardware acceleration (Intel Quick Sync, NVIDIA NVENC, or VAAPI, depending on your hardware).
  • On a CPU-only server it still works, but it can be heavy and slow.

D. Everything else: nothing to do

Offline downloads, casting, adaptive quality, kids mode, multiple servers and profiles, playback speed, sleep timer, the large buffer, subtitle styling, and per-series language memory all work against a standard Jellyfin with no extra setup.
